Our commitment to Net Zero
SOMA Project Controls Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse-gas emissions by 2040, with an interim target to halve our baseline emissions by 2032. This commitment covers our UK operations and sits alongside our wider sustainability programme.
Scope
The plan covers our Scope 1, Scope 2 and a defined subset of Scope 3 emissions. It reports against all five Scope 3 categories required by PPN 06/21 — business travel, employee commuting, waste generated in operations, and upstream and downstream transportation and distribution — plus, voluntarily, purchased goods and services and upstream cloud and IT services.
Baseline emissions
Our baseline reporting year is the financial year ending 31 March 2026. As a small, remote-first professional-services consultancy, our footprint is modest and dominated by business travel and cloud-hosted IT. Scope 1 is minimal — no owned vehicles and no on-site combustion — and Scope 2 is limited to the home-working share, transitioning to renewable tariffs where colleagues have purchasing control. Quantified figures are being measured for the baseline year and will be published in the first annual update to this plan.
Our pathway to Net Zero
The pathway is built on four levers, in descending order of impact:
- 1Travel avoidance — default to virtual delivery, and co-locate physical workshops where travel is unavoidable.
- 2Modal shift — rail over short-haul flights; public transport over single-occupancy car travel.
- 3Energy decarbonisation — 100% renewable tariffs in any SOMA-controlled premises, and encouragement of the same for home-working colleagues.
- 4Residual offsetting — verified removals only (not avoidance credits), applied only to genuinely residual emissions from 2035 onwards.
Governance & reporting
Sustainability KPIs are reviewed quarterly at director level, supplier sustainability credentials are considered in procurement decisions, and we re-baseline and report progress on this website each year. This plan follows PPN 06/21 and the associated reporting standard; emissions will be reported using the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard and the appropriate Government emission conversion factors, with our first quantified figures published in the first annual update. It has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors and is updated at least annually.
